REQUIREMENTS

AGE: Minimum age: 15 yrs (Junior Open Water: 12 yrs – please ask for further details).

PHYSICAL: Must be in good general health. For safety, we ask all students to complete a brief questionnaire that asks about medical conditions that could be a problem while diving.

Medical forms can be downloaded click here >>[download id=”5″]

PLEASE COMPLETE THE MEDICAL STATEMENT AND HAND TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE OR SEND IT VIA EMAIL

Please note! if you answer YES to any of the medical questions you will need this form for your doctor >>[download id=”4″]

WATERSKILLS: Must be comfortable in the water. Before completing the course, your instructor will ask you to demonstrate basic water skills by swimming 200 metres (or 300 metres in mask, fins and snorkel). There is no time limit for this, and you may use any swimming strokes you want. You will also need to float or tread water for 10 minutes, again using any methods that you want.

What does each element of the course involve?

1. KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT (SELF-STUDY)

This develops your familiarity with basic principles and procedures. You learn things like how pressure affects your body, how to choose the best equipment for your needs and what to consider when planning dives.

You will complete Knowledge Development in your own time, reading each of five sections of the provided PADI Open Water Diver Manual and watching the corresponding section of the PADI Open Water Diver DVD (which also previews skills you’ll learn). (If you prefer computer-based learning, you can also get the Open Water Diver Manual and DVD together as a CD-ROM.) Generally speaking you will need 1 – 2 weeks to read the open water diver manual and to complete the knowledge reviews before you start the course. Alternatively you can spend a relaxing day in the peaceful surroundings and complete the multiple choice quizzes in your leisure.

You will briefly review what you studied in each section when you meet with your instructor. At the end of the course, you will take an *exam that makes sure you’ve got a grasp of all the key concepts and ideas.

[*For those who are taking the Scuba Diver Course their is only 3 multiple choice quizzes and NO EXAM.]

2. CONFINED WATER DIVES

Fun is the key ingredient to our Confined Open Water Module, here you will develop basic scuba skills in our outdoor swimming pool and you’ll learn everything from setting up your equipment, to clearing water from your mask. You’ll also practice some emergency skills, like sharing air with your buddy. You may also play some games. The aim is to ensure you feel comfortable under water.

There are five confined water dives for the Open Water Qualification and three for the Scuba Diver Qualification, each building upon the previous one. Over the course of these modules, you will attain the skills you need to dive in open water.

3. OPEN WATER DIVES

After your confined water dives you will undertake four open water dives or two if you are taking the Scuba Diver with your personal PADI Instructor at our dive site in Tenerife, the water is clear and warm, averaging 23 degrees, it is highly likely that on your dives you will see hundreds of fish along with our resident Turtles.

Two dives are conducted per day, unless alternatives schedules are requested. This is where you can have some fun putting into practice what you’ve learnt and fully experience your first underwater adventure.

After the final dive we all celebrate a well earned qualification.
